Competent organizations move mountains – because they can – and because they have to. ( Vlog of Moving the Matterhorn coming soon!)

All people do what they do for the same two reasons: because they can and because they must. We must find or develop the competencies – the skill, knowledge, and talent that enables us to prepare ourselves to make possible whatever it is we must do. And it is our sense of purpose – noble or not – that informs us as to what is necessary.

In April 2018 I journeyed to The Matterhorn – to demonstrate the concept of moving mountains.

What started as a concept, the idea to use the image of the Matterhorn to suggest the powerful qualities of intentionally competent leadership became connected to a sense of greater purpose. We began to understand that combatting the dysfunction that exists in the world due to the absence of competence was critical to how we can bring more life and more joy to the world. It became a magnificent obsession driving the mission to improve society by providing the tools and guidance to help leaders become more effective in driving meaningful, positive and significant accomplishments through the organizations they lead.

The trip became necessary and it was then easy to make possible. And by doing so, I moved the magnificent Matterhorn from a concept forged in my imagination – to literally before my eyes. Moving mountains is a metaphor for removing the obstacles that get in the way of our performance. Moving mountains means getting ourselves to where we need to be.
