When You Elevate Your Leadership – You Improve Your Company’s Performance.

Learn How Our Completely Redesigned Leadership Development Labs

Will Equip You and Your Team to

Face the Tough Decisions You Face Every Day

We have designed and continuously improved our cutting-edge Leadership Cohorts to give you the sustainable competitive advantage you need to outperform your competition – and maintain success in a VUCA world. ( A world defined by Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity.)

To accomplish what matters most, you must be effective at both leading people and managing the things that matter. Effective management is a science that can effectively be learned and applied with tools that are easily acquired and freely available. Exceptional leadership is rare and elusive. You cannot teach someone to be a competent leader. The competencies, thinking, and conscientiousness must be self-developed.

When it comes to leadership development, there are no shortcuts, no easy recipes, and no guarantees. You cannot make people into leaders by offering them training and incentives. You must cultivate the necessary thinking, provide the requisite experience and give people, who have what it takes, the opportunity to grow, flourish and realize their sense of purpose to reach their full potential.

“Poorly managed companies fail quickly.

And poorly led companies Fail Eventually.”

ALPS Leadership Learning Labs

Leadership Development Program

We are guided by the belief that leadership is the core of any organization’s enduring success.

We organize the thinking behind our leadership programs and services based on the following concepts and principles.

  1. Poorly managed companies fail quickly, and poorly led companies fail eventually.

  2. You cannot manage people; you manage things, and you must lead people.

  3. It is the organization that makes the leader successful, not the other way around.

We believe that unlike management, which is teachable, leadership must be developed but cannot be taught. People can learn what they need to know about being a leader, but the ability to be effective is less about what you know and do – and almost entirely about what you believe and who you are.

Our Leadership Development programs are founded on the principles and proven value of self-development in a learning-rich environment where it is safe to explore and test ideas and have your answers questioned.

The design of the Syllabus consists of critical learning materials to prod new perspectives, habits of thinking, and behaviors that address the transcendence of reactive leadership tendencies towards creative and more resourceful tendencies. Creative leadership resources are proven to correlate to what makes leaders exceptional and organizations more sustainably successful.

Unlike traditional training programs or classes, the ALPS Learning Labs put the responsibility of learning and understanding what you need to know squarely on each member’s shoulders – while fostering an environment that supportively creates engagement and drives accountability.

The Learning Labs aim to elevate the organization’s performance by enhancing the effectiveness of its leaders. We offer two distinct programs. One is for developing future leaders in our Leadership Bound

Learning Lab. The other, The Leaders Expedition Lab, is for those already in senior leadership roles who have proven themselves to be effective managers – but need to become more fully competent leaders to

lead their companies successfully into the future. Both programs are fully immersive, live online programs that challenge the Cohorts to understand and effectively apply learned concepts to solve problems that otherwise perpetuate mediocrity and dysfunction.

  1. Leadership Bound – A Future Leaders Track for developing emerging and rising leaders with the core competencies and habits of thinking that serve as the foundation for effective leadership and applying relevant and pragmatic management tools to ensure operational integrity. This experiential learning track focuses on developing future leaders and those who have attained leadership responsibilities without the means to balance the need to manage things and lead people effectively. The objective is to provide those who need to be prepared to step up into senior leadership roles with the resources to successfully assume responsibility for elevating their current level of performance – and navigating the organization successfully into the future.
  1. The Leaders’ Expedition — A course track for those presently responsible for leading their organizations and who have managed a level of sustainable success. The focus is on developing and positioning themselves and their organization to attain a flywheel that generates the capacity to maintain a sustainable competitive advantage. The aim is to be fully prepared emotionally, intellectually, and strategically to thrive amidst the world’s ever-present volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity by cultivating a high-performance culture and ameliorating the mediocrity and dysfunction that causes poorly led organizations to eventually fail.

Leadership Bound Learning Lab

Leadership Bound consists of twenty-two 2-hour live, interactive learning lab sessions delivered online. The coursework links guided readings and the development of think pieces in addition to the presentation and discussion around core elements and desired behaviors that define competent leadership. The Syllabus assumes and requires a bias for self-direction and self-learning.

Cohorts involve 8-12 participants. The diversity of experience and needs adds context and richness to the learning lab environment and stimulates dialogues that expand all participants’ perspectives. The discourse fosters productive challenge in a safe, supportive space that promotes accountability towards meaningful and significant accomplishment. Ultimately these accomplishments are measured against the broader needs for accomplishment across the organization.

Pre-work for each session guides the first hour’s didactic learning experience – followed by a facilitated “roundtable” executive session where we address actual workplace issues in the context of leadership-driven solutions. The emphasis is a Socratic-based interrogation of challenges, opportunity objectives, and an overall interrogation of current realities.

Enrollees receive a binder with all course materials. Additional reading that is assigned requires acquiring books that are available to purchase on Amazon.

All Cohort members are also required to take a PI Assessment (Predictive Index Behavioral Assessment) to establish a baseline understanding of the behavioral characteristics of the individuals and the Cohort. Our assessments are all rigorously validated instruments and administered by our certified expert practitioners.

Participants receive personalized reports, and we generate a group report for the Cohort to learn how best to apply the findings to group dynamics. Participants are also encouraged to share the report findings with their teams.

Captive (In-House) Leadership Bound Learning Labs

Leadership Bound Learning Labs can also be offered as captive programs within a single company with a minimum of 6-8 Cohort members with participants representing cross-functional roles.

Captive cohorts differ slightly in function, given that the range of organizational perspectives tends to be narrower. Some practical issues may also arise around the confidentiality that underpins the necessary candor that enriches the executive session dialogue. The beneficial trade-off is that the issues that participants bring into the learning lab provide for highly effective collaborative problem-solving. The level of trust and team cohesion also benefits from interrogating realities and Cohort members challenging each other’s thinking.

Captive Cohorts receive a 20% tuition discount for Cohorts of 8 or more.

Organization-wide programs offering training to multiple Cohorts can be customized to address the organization’s broader needs for specific outcomes and scheduling purposes. Facilitated offsite learning lab retreats to further build organizational alignment and performance.

Leaders Expedition Learning Lab

The Leaders Expedition program consists of the same 22 sessions as the Leadership Bound Cohorts – plus four half-day virtual executive sessions to address the application of tools and principles to the actual needs of Cohort members.

This program provides each Cohort member with monthly online 1-hour coaching sessions with one or two ALPS senior faculty members. Our Cohort Leaders each have over 10,000 hours of experience coaching senior executives.

In addition, members of the Leaders’ Expedition each take the LCP 360 assessment – providing an in-depth evaluation of 29 dimensions of leadership behavior characterized by creative competencies and reactive tendencies. Using validated online survey results from the participant and up to 12 people selected to rate the behaviors in the work environment – the report provides a highly actionable understanding and roadmap for individual and team development. Each survey is followed by a 90-minute personal debrief and a training workshop to ensure the results are meaningful and significant.

*The assessment cost is $2950 per assessment, and $450 per participant for groups of 8 or more.

from wherever you are…

Our AccElevation Cohorts provide leadership support and resources for personal, professional, and organizational development unlike anything you have ever experienced.

  • Our work in developing current and future leaders is steeped in the principles that have made ALPS Leadership successful in helping leaders grow themselves and their organizations for more than 15 years.

  • Our approach to leadership focuses on experiential learning in cohorts. We create a carefully designed and crafted environment where otherwise influential and successful people can feel safe putting down their armor and experience and becoming vulnerable to their own sense of curiosity—and free to be challenged and challenged by others.
  • By combining advanced theoretical expertise with hard-earned experience, our cohorts’ members are challenged to grow in a high-intensity lab where they come to have their assumptions questioned, vet their decisions, and be held accountable to the risks they must undertake to perform exceptionally well.

“The only way to grow as a leader is to grow as a person.”

Announcing Two New Leadership Cohorts

Our Cohorts are facilitated peer-advisory boards that focus on elevating the performance of business leaders while providing the resources to establish and maintain a sustainable competitive advantage. Cohort membership is by invitation only. Candidates are fully vetted and carefully selected. We ensure that each Cohort offers a diversity of proven experiences among people with a bias to help others and provides a safe, confidential environment where members can bring and get valuable clarity around their most challenging issues.

Family Business Leadership Cohort

Family dynamics impact every level of even the most successful “family-owned and operated” companies. Some of the issues are deeply emotional interpersonal issues that require individual and group psychotherapy to address appropriately. We DO NOT provide clinical therapy. Our experience working with family-operated businesses gives us objective and actionable insight into how to balance business needs effectively with personal issues and needs to elevate overall performance and cultivate more joy.

The broader issues and resulting dysfunction that are all too common in family businesses are no different from those of any organization. Every company succeeds for the same two reasons. First, the things necessary to manage are attended to appropriately. Second, people cannot be managed and expected to perform to their full potential. In organizations, performance is cultivated by having competent leadership.

A sustainably successful organization requires strong leadership to create a work culture and environment that supports high performance and accomplishes results that matter most. (Problems often exist when family members do not perform at a high level, causing strain among family members and resentment and resignation among other employees.)

The balance of effectively managing things and leading people is the core of ALPS Leadership’s offerings and expertise. We provide resources to help leaders develop into competent managers by understanding what matters most and prioritizing and delegating to ensure they are. More importantly, we help our clients develop themselves into effective leaders of others – and of themselves, ensuring that the organization’s culture supports all the stakeholders, including family, employees, suppliers, and customers.

The program includes 10 Cohort Sessions of vetted professionals selected based on meeting our 3-C criteria through a mutual interview process. These are virtual sessions with between 8 and 12 members that meet monthly on Zoom for 2 ½ hours.

Coaches Leadership Cohorts

Just as doctors need other doctors to care for them, educators need teachers to train them, coaches need coaches to coach them to perform to their fullest potential. Issues facing coaches range from feeling isolated to building, managing, and maintaining their practices to be profitable and sustainable, having a sounding board where they can safely bounce ideas and address challenges and issues. And they also benefit from being privately coached to help keep them sharp, productive, focused, and challenged. Through our Cohorts, we provide coaches with a community of like-minded people who understand and can support them while providing a safe environment to bring their challenges. And we support the work of the Cohort with private coaching for business and self-leadership.

The program includes 10 Cohort Sessions consisting of vetted professionals selected based on meeting our 3-C criteria through a mutual interview process. These are virtual sessions with between 8 and 12 members that meet monthly on Zoom for 2 ½ hours.

The Annual Tuition and includes full engagement in the Cohort and ten 45-minute private coaching sessions during scheduled office hours and are conducted over Zoom.
